Background: G Gamma14 (GNGT2) is a Guanine nucleotide-binding protein. G proteins are composed of 3 units, alpha, beta and gamma and are involved in various transmembrane signaling systems as signal modulators or transducers. The beta and gamma chains are required for the GTPase activity, for replacement of GDP by GTP, and for G protein-effector interaction. This G protein is specific to retinal cones and is involved in regulation of phototransduction.
