Background: GAS 6 is a ligand for the tyrosine-protein kinase receptors AXL, TYRO3 and MER whose signaling is implicated in cell growth and survival, cell adhesion and cell migration. GAS 6 regulates chondrogenic differentiation from mesenchymal cells and also plays a role in thrombosis by amplifying platelet aggregation and secretion in response to known agonists. It is over expressed in human gliomas and regulate the phagocytic function of sertoli cells.
