Background: Annexin V (ANX5) is a member of a family of calcium-dependent phospholipid binding proteins. This family of annexins also includes giardin that has been shown to function as an annexin. This protein is an anticoagulant protein that acts as an indirect inhibitor of the thromboplastin-specific complex, which is involved in the blood coagulation cascade.
