Background: HINT1 is a member of the histidine triad superfamily of enzymes which are involved in nucleotide transferase and/or hydrolase activity. It is also know ast PKCI-1 due to its ability to inhibit protein kinase C activity. Hint1 hydrolyzes adenosine 5'-monophosphoramidate substrates such as AMP-morpholidate, AMP-N-alanine methyl ester, AMP-alpha-acetyl lysine methyl ester and AMP-NH2. It has been shown to interact with MITF, Cdk7, pontin and reptin and it is though HINT1 may function as a tumor suppressor protein.
