Background: The receptor for IL22 is a new member of the class II cytokine receptor family. IL22 Receptor forms a complex with IL10 Receptor beta chain and mediates IL22 signaling. IL22 and its receptor activate the JAK/STAT signaling pathway. IL22 Receptor is expressed in normal liver and kidney and their cell lines HepG2 and TK10. A soluble form of IL22 Receptor, also termed IL22 binding protein (IL22BP) and IL22 receptor alpha 2 (IL22 RA2), was identified very recently. IL22BP prevents binding of IL22 to the functional cell surface IL22 Receptor complex and neutralizes IL22 activity. LPS induces IL22 expression, which indicates the role of IL22 in inflammatory response.
