Background: Corticotropin Releasing Factor Receptor 2 (CRHR2) expression has been reported in various regions of the brain, as well as in placenta, umbilical vein, heart, epididymis, gastrointestinal tract, adrenal, and skeletal muscle. It shows high-affinity CRF binding and also binds to urocortin I, II and III. The activity of this receptor is mediated by G proteins which activate adenylyl cyclase. CRCH2 alpha is the dominant isoform and is expressed widely. CRCH2 beta is expressed in the hippocampus, septum, amygdala, heart, and skeletal muscle. CRHR2 gamma is brain-specific. ESTs have been isolated from brain libraries.
